Profile

The "Instituto de Ingeniería Eléctrica" (IIE) belongs to the Engineering School of the "Universidad de la República" of Uruguay. The technical staff of the IIE is an increasing group of about 140 people now, among which 17% are full-time and 22% have postgraduate studies. Full-time staff members are responsible for most of research activities, while the rest of the members share their time in teaching and working in the industry. There are also 8 people performing supporting tasks.

IIE research activities concentrate on strategic aspects of the electrical engineering involving the development of a small country like Uruguay, which is undergoing an integration process along with its neighbouring countries in order to consolidate an economic community (the MerCoSur).

The IIE has given priority to two kinds of researching: joint projects with the national industry consisting of the development of new products by applied research, as well as more basic, long termed research activities financed by international funding programmes.
